PJ Panda and Reggie Raccon are best friends. On a beautiful sunny day they decide to go on a hike. They have always wanted to climb a mountain and head off to find one. Along the way they encounter four very different and interesting characters:
The first character they run into is a bear named Butterscotch, who is very, very tired because she can't hibernate in her cozy cave. It seems there is an eerie moaning echoing through the cave and Butterscotch can't get to sleep. PJ and Reggie decide to investigate and promise to find out what is causing the eerie moaning. As they navigate the dark tunnels of the cave, the moaning seems to come from everywhere. PJ and Reggie hurry through the cave, thinking some sort of monster is chasing them. They finally emerge from the cave to find they are on a rocky trail that leads up a very high mountain. PJ and Reggie hear some muttering close by. Being curious they creep closer to a corner in the trail and they see.....
Moe, a moose who is clumsily walking in circles. They introduce themselves and discover that Moe was also trying to find out what is causing the eerie moaning which it now seems is coming from somewhere up near the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, Moe is extremely nearsighted and has lost his glasses after tripping on a rock. He explains that without his glasses he can't go anywhere. PJ and Reggie help Moe find his glasses. He is very grateful to them and agrees to help them on their quest to discover the cause of the eerie moaning. But he is a bit nervous about what they'll find. Fortunately Moe has a map of the mountain which guides them easly to the top.
Along the way they run into another odd character named Maury who is deathly afraid of heights. This is also odd because Maury is a mountain goat. Maury has been trying to get down the mountain but can't seem to get up the courage to do it as the trail is quite narrow. PJ, Reggie and Moe convince Maury to tag along with them and they will try to help him overcome his fear of falling. He is a mountain goat after all and should be very sure-footed. The four new friends set off up the mountain. Eventuallt, they find themselves in the middle of a very thick cloud that hides the top of the mountain. The cloud cover calms Maury down because he can't see how high he is. He leads them safely through the clouds where they come upon...
A very large, purple ball of fluff. The fluffball is nestled upon a big flat rock, moaning very loudly. The four adventurers cautiously approach the large fluffy creature, curious and nervous at the same time. Reggie reaches forward and pokes the fuzzy ball. Startled, the fluffball jumps into the air and lands right in front of them. They see a very sad creature who introduces herself as Sassy, a teenage Sasquatch. Once everyone has introduced themselves, a sniffling Sassy tells them she has been living on the top of this mountain for a very long time and she is very, very lonely. PJ and Reggie have an idea. With the help of Moe and Maury they set up a picnic with the snacks in PJ's knapsack. They all get to know each other a bit better and soon they all become good friends. When PJ and Reggie decide it is time to return home, Sassy starts to sniffle again. She is sad to see them leave. But PJ smiles and says..."Follow me everyone, I've got a great idea.
The five new friends follow PJ down the mountain and end up in Butterscotch's cave. Reggie introduces Sassy, Moe and Maury to Butterscotch. She is even more tired now but also very pleased to meet the group of adventurers. Watching Butterscotch yawn over and over, the group realizes that they are very tired too. Butterscotch invites them to take a nap and they all make themselves comfortable and fall asleep, snuggled together, friends forever.
